Biography

Amine El Bacha was born in Beirut, Lebanon in 1932. At the age of 15, he was already painting having discarded the idea of becoming a musician. Shortly after graduating from the Lebanese Academy of Fine Arts, he pursued his studies in Paris at the Ecole Nationale Superieure des Beaux-Arts and at La Grande Chaumiere with Henri Goetz. He won the prize of the French Embassy “Prix de l’Ambassade de France” and in 1959, he was honoured with an award from the Ministry of Education and Fine Arts. There followed the “Prix Cittaeterna” (Rome 1976) with artist Corneille. His illustrations for the poetic works of Alain Jouffroy in the early 1970’s brought commissions to illustrate the work of Lebanese poet Nadia Tueni (1983) and during his days in Italy, another for the Italian version of Leopold Sedar Senghor’s poetry.

Amine El Bacha lives between Beirut and Paris where he spends most of his time in his studios and in Cafes, writing, drawing or painting. El Bacha also spends a lot of time in Spain. His prolific and eclectic artistry today graces modern art museums in Spain, Italy, France, several Arab countries as well as many private collections.
